Salim Dada
 
 

 

Young Algerian composer who shows with his musical creation the amalgam between folklore and academism, from traditional Maghreb - in and Eastern music towards a current and universal symphonic language. These compositions had the privilege to take part in several contests and national and international festivals and to be crowned several times.

Salim Dada was born in 1975 at Laghouat in the Algeria, formed as a medical practitioner and being known as a painter artist. Around 18 years old he acquires his first music notions with the guitarist A.Gourine.  He started during 10 years autodidact courses, while he improves his technique of classical guitar, studies the western and Eastern theories and the harmony. It was the period for his first compositions for guitar, violin and flute.
In 2002 he performed the cycle of the musical writing (melody, polyphony and analyze) with the composer J-L kuczynski in France and academician G.Bouyagoub at the INSM of Algiers.

   Salim dada is the author of several compositions for chamber orchestra and symphonic orchestra, and other polyphonic choral teams and jazz formations.
He composes for the Algerian National Symphony Orchestra and for other international orchestra; he is interested in the composition based on image, in theatre and cinema.

Currently he ensures the teaching of Harmony and Counterpoint at music institutes of Algiers (IRFM and ENS), and he direct orchestra of Andalussian and Algerian music; Al-Motribiya and Al-Wissal at Blida and Al-Ouns at Laghouat, in these orchestras he plays Oud and Bendir (douf).

His composition “ASHWAQ” or NOSTALGIA describes soul states and various emotions such as the desire, the passion and temptation in a soufi and spiritual way. Inspired by the old Turkish and Arab tradition, this Samai Nahawound for symphonic orchestra proposes a new approach of the Arab music with these various authentic elements and original aspects.

“ASHWAQ” is a new work ordered by Arab Youth Philarmonic Orchestra for the concerts of the summer 2007 in Germany and in Egypt. Salim Dada dedicated this score to Marcel Khalife.
